I all the player guides I keep seeing a mention of 'conserve power' and some other funny power names I have never heard of.

Now Professor Magma has one respec sitting there unused (possibly shouldnt use it till i7?) and i figured it be fun to toss out the old required provoke and respec but WTF are all these guides referring to when talking about those 'new ' power pools and to top it off, do i need conserve power?

1.7.6.0 is the latest hero builder.

In the hero planner, they are next to the power pools.

Sounds like you want your tanker to be high on survivability and low on number of attacks. Tanks now have an auto power called Gauntlet. This means that all attacks attract an extra aoe taunt element. So even if your dmg output doesn't allow you to kill that quick, at least they are all on you.

So tankers are less of a 'taunt bot' now. Tremor and blazing aura are awesome for maintaining aggro.

I have a suggested build below.

Some points:
- burn patch is no where near as awesome as it used to be in terms of dmg.
- burn patch actually helps to mitigate dmg. You are surrounded by melee units - put down burn, they run away.
- word on the street is that burn patch is getting a 'buff' in I7. Stay tuned.
- don't slot anything more than 3 enhancments of the same type into a power
- the old design element of primary > secondary > pool powers holds now more true
- having conserve power will give you 3x end related powers. Probably more than you need.
- combat jumping costs so little it's not worth an end redux
- taking the fighting pool to get tough - although it makes you more resistant to damage, it's boring. Tremor and seismic smash is way more fun.
- tremor knocks down - it's a great opening move in a group. It gives trollers in your team to lay some aoe holds, gives the dps in your team a chance to lay some attacks. Then follow it up with fault. Most of the minions will be defeated before a chance to attack.
- consume fills your end bar at about 3-4mobs without and end enhancements. I find recharge is more useful.
- basic attacks have an end usage of around 1end/sec, fire shield/plasma shield are 0.239eps. It makes more sense to slot for end redux on your attacks before your toggles.
- I've gone 'earth mastery' for your >lvl41 powers. The aoe disorient in earth (Stalagmites) will stack well with fault (secondary pool, aoe disorient).
- stone prison will work well with bosses. You'll need 2x applications of it though, but on paper you should be able to immobilize a boss so you can use burn patch on him.
- I've added end redux to the 2x shields at lvl 43, then 46. At lvl 40, even with CJ, BA, acro, PS, and FS you still have 1.389 end per se available. Which is enough to cover your attacks.
- blues actually drop rather often now. I swear the drop rate has increased for blues. A number of heroes of mine have 50% blues in their insp tray that they rarely use.

Follow up questions/statements

Why never more than 3 of the same type? (it used to be the accepted convention to slot the tank shields hard)

I still have to take tough. Fire tanks get nowhere near the lethal/smash resist cap on FS alone :/ Yes I hate dying :p (but i love using rise of the pheonix LOL)

Rise of the flame birdy, Needs a heal in it to top u up to almost full health when u rez.

Yes I love the diorienting powers so earth powers seem like a good match :)

for the quick overview, here are the numbers that explain why we only use 3 enhancements now. Even at 3 enhancements ED has kicked in (eg accuracy used to be 99%, now it's 95%) and beyond that it's just a fucking joke

on the plus side, you now only need 3 slots for things like stamina that only accept one type of enhancement

I dont totally get it. So if I get 3 SO's i'll increase my damage by 95% but the 4th one will increase my damage only another 5% to 100%?

works something like that? If so WOW, i really really have to respec ol' Magma.

yep

for a 33% SO, previously 4x would give you 4x33 == 132%, now it gives you 100%. 6x is even worse, drops from 198% to 110.

Well im really going to have to work Tough in there then ;) I cant believe how much Weave (and defense in general) got nerfed though.

lol yeah tell that to my SR scrapper :P

at the same time they were forced to nerf the mob accuracy so they didn't gimp us too much :D

I think they nerfed my villians accuracy >_< why does the streak breaker always have to kick in when I use brawl T_T

Kash,

Most of the enemies post lvl 40 are non lethal/smash. Getting 'tough' will bore you. Tremor and SS is waay more fun. And besides, I'm running around with MsTaken (storm/nrg def) at the moment with Breton Bowman (A/TA def) lvls 39,37. And we aren't dieing all that much. Although we can't take on AVs ourselves.

I strongly suggest avoiding another power pool. The game is tweeked now that you don't "need" power pools as much. And this includes fire armour for tanks. Although stamina is still a must for the toggle heavy builds. If you didn't have blazing aura, and slotted attacks with end redux, you wouldn't actually need stamina.

That wasn't the case pre I5.

free respecs are given out when the devs feel generous, max 1 at any given time. But you can use every free one given to you. I think 3 or 4 free respecs have been given out.

The amount of respecs earnt via the trial is 3.

you can actually store 2, 1x earnt and 1x free

I think they're giving out another respec for I7, and it's not that hard to do the respec trial tbh
