some Nando's Factoids for you Secro.

Nando's was first founded in South Africa by a Portuguese couple from Mocambique (A Portuguese colony, same place I was born).

- The chicken is prepared with piri-piri, a african chilli pepper from the same country. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/African_birdseye
- It is marinated in a combination of lemon,piri-piri,white pepper, salt, garlic, olive oil, white wine, paprika overnight
- Cooked over burning coals spadgecock style, constantly marinated in the process. Called "paint and turn"

The small original nando's restaurant in a Portuguese suburb of Johannesburg was quite popular and frequented by many nationalities. Amongst the chicken, other specialities are prawns cooked in the same style and a chicken liver piri-piri entree which is to die for. Unfortunately you cant get either of these in the Australian franchises.

The husband of the founder on passing away, the lady was considering selling the small local restaurant. A local patron (Jewish businessman) approached her and the rest is history. Most of the authentic flavour has been retained in the version of Nando's in Australia, but some of the core authenticity is amiss.

For the real deal, we need a barbie day over some weekend at my place.
