Serviio (Playing Movies/TV shows on smart TV (DLNA))

Hey guys,

I've had a smart TV for ages now, only today have I discovered the amazing ability of Serviio. Until now I've been using Samsung Allshare (It's a Samsung TV) and it's been horrible. Downloaded and installed Serviio tonight and it's the best thing out there I reckon for streaming wirelessly to a smart TV! So if anyone else is sick of their software, I highly recommend this.

Just a helpful tip :)

Edit: Also, an awesome tool for naming TV Shows / Movies correctly Filebot

I tried this one out, but its having to compete with XBMC running directly off my linux box near the TV.

It never managed to scan the bulk of my library and seem to generate around a gig of daily traffic, I assume it got stuck on a file and was repeating some task that never finished. It did however serve up the 720p mkv (that it did scan) correctly and played on the Samsung.

Would be great to find a DLNA server that will just displays all my folders instead of trying to classify all my media.

Of course if someone was to get all the hardware/drivers and we can compile a nice media player on the sammy instead of using their own, browsing samba shares still beats DLNA :(

I'm not 100% certain but pretty sure PS3 Media Server has profiles optimised for Samsung TVs. I use it myself to stream through my PS3 and occasionally through my android phone (still haven't optimised that yet and struggles on 10bit and 1080p but thats an Android thing). Been using PS3MS for a long time now and have had great success with it.

Serviio has been going great for me on my PS3 - however sometimes (and very randomly) the streaming from my PC just lags up, every 2 secs it will pause for a second, almost likes its buffering..however its only on a local wireless network, so I wouldnt think there should be much (if any) delay.

Anyone got a fix for it?

Try resetting the servio console (turn it off and on again). I think that fixed mine last time, otherwise not sure :S

Serviio has an option with 'Folders' with all the genres, thats how I do mine. Perfectly arranged in folders, so I go in there and see 'Movies' and 'TV shows' that I named, etc etc :)

Yeah I went into folders but for example I had a movies directory and it still displayed nothing under that, was stuck I think in TV Series directory. TV Series was the only folder of 5 it managed to offer me anything. So folders is still not a pure just show me everything type deal, it just the way it presents the info for you (actually the only way I want to see the info, apart from whats new)

I'll give it a burl again some time.. Its still top of the pile for DLNA servers so far.

Hrm, that's really weird. Mine appears exactly as it is on my PC, would imagine yours should too! It's all setup to look in the right drives/folders I'm assuming? Other than resetting serviio, got no idea what could cause that. Would send me insane personally haha :(

Interestingly enough on my PS3, it displays everything all sorted and with correct titles, air dates, icons etc..however its not changed anything on my PC where the files are - it must be checking the web and sorting them, but only from a GUI side of thing, rather than changing the files themselves. Not that I mind, since it doesnt get everything 100% correct, but its still pretty cool :D

Yeah and I like how it finds little movie icons to show, a lot of mine were too obscurely named for it to pick up though haha. Ended up spending a couple of hours just going through everything and renaming it. Still haven't finished haha
