any recs on a laptop in the $1k - $1250 price range? Doesn't need to be used for gaming, preferrably comes with Win7.

These guys are really good - ordered my laptop through them, as well as many users on Whirlpool rave about them

I bought http://www.logicalblueone.com.au/store/ ... roduct=148 - $1399
so a little out of your budget but it will game well (even tho you don't "need" that ability its always nice to have :P)

Its new from ASUS - basically means that they found a part in a batch that was stuffed (eg like a dodgy hard drive) they have removed the entire part, put in a new part, and boxed it with a full 3 year warranty. Its done by ASUS at their factory - not a chopshop or anything :)

You can pay an extra $200 for the same model "brand" new if your paranoid, but really, its guaranteed by Asus themselves, so I don't mind.

Got my new toy.

Very shiny! Upgraded it to Win7 Professional (thanks Oht for that student link!) and very smooth startup. It gets 5.8/7.9 on the Windows Unco Test not bad for a laptop.

Also grabbed an Optus 3g USB stick, to give it a bash during my lunch breaks and when I'm away from home. (yes I'm that addicted to MMOs :P)

Aion runs on full graphics at a stable 50-60FPS, and using a proxy service w/ Optus 3g, gets a stable 350-400MS ping. Very nice considering its wireless!

So yeh, this thing is a beast, and well worth the price tag. Grab them while they are hot! (They are on backorder till early Dec, but you can place your order now - also note it comes with the unit and the charger/discs only, so you will need a laptop bag as well).

Yup works great. Able to run most major games of current times very nicely - Was playing Aion, Call of Duty Mod Warfare 2 etc, all running perfectly.

Has feck all battery life tho, as its a gaming rig - you will get an hour out of it when its not being charged - but as long as its on a desk you are fine. Just not the best to travel etc.

True. And the screen is easy to clean off...

On a related note, there is a sticker on my air conditioner...it says do not put hand inside unit when running... I tested it when standing, and jogging on the spot..nothing happened when i put my hand inside it..too scared to do it while running..besides fainting, i might die! What should i do? Risk it?
