BAD BAD NEWS, Watch SWTOR forums for updates

Post by Vilrond » 08 Dec 2011, 10:16

EDIT*
Fixed new link
http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=724271

"There will be no ‘grace period’ post launch in which those who are in Early Game Access will be able to continue to play the game. In order to continue playing past the Early Game Access period, you will need to enter a valid launch game code and payment method. Please read our FAQ for more information. We apologize for any previous messaging which may have led you to believe otherwise."

This is a death blow for us people outside the US/UK

Yes you will be needing that $35 expressing shipping now I think.

Pretty sure Amazon actually emails you the product code in addition to mailing you the box.

Not confirmed tho.

Anyway, not much we can do. We can either hope amazon ship it sooner (lol) or that they MAY send cd-keys out. (potentially LOL) but we'll have to wait and see.

EA are pretty fucked for choosing a dick time to release a game, honestly 20th of December, everyone knows that's retarded.

I get this feeling customers are going to be screwed every possible way with this game, not just at launch, but right through the life of the game.

Can't wait! :D

I would say bogus to the claims of then sending out cd keys. Probably confusion in their call centre on the Early Access and Game Codes.

The only hope for amazon is either, they do ship early (as they already have the product apparently)
I guess its a issues of breaking street date in US.

The only, but albeit very unlikely outcome, is Bioware come up withe a system where there is a third key that Amazon will include with you shipment confirmation that will tide you over till the copy arrives.

I'm surprised there isn't at least a day or two, As this bites even the US customers.

If I was to play the "conspiracy" role, One could state that having a sizeable population drop off the server for the street release date will help all the non pre-orders enjoy a relatively good run on the servers until all of us return. Or if could be a case of fu from EA for all these tossers screwing with their release zones :)

However people whinging about Aussies and Red zoners being locked out *shrug* you can't make any legitimate noise regarding this as well it is outside their supported area.

We could just dump all the CE's at amazon and get the Digital version floating about, a bit of fu to EA.

I think that is exactly it.

I think they had an oh shit moment when they checked the preorders and thought up a way they could still keep as much profit as possible but ditch a lot of players at launch.

So they first made the decision to not launch outside UK/US
then they realised that wasn't going to be enough so they came up with a nasty idea to stealth cancel the grace period.

What they didn't think about was how they would be shafting their CE preorder customers in US (CE isn't available in Digital Download for obvious reasons and may in a lot of cases arrive after 20th even in US)

SO now they have created a massive shit storm when what they probably should have done from the day they announced the release zones, is IP locked it to those zones.

But that would have cost them more money not getting purchases outside those zones.

So they took the greedy asshole path.

Bioware/EA are currently in talks with Amazon re: getting the preorders shipped early. Will keep you updated as it happens. :D

Poor move.

Either re-enable grace period, or authorise shipment from online retailers ASAP.

Why alienate your loyal **AND PAYING** customer base by implementing a poorly thought out process to avoid scammers jumping in on a minor 5 day grace period?
