CoH/CoV closing down

Ok, I haven't been here in a while. I see the superhero forum sections have been archived. I know a number of people here played the game. City of Heroes closing down: http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Paragon-Studios-City-of-Heroes-MMORPG-Andy-Belford-NCsoft,17315.html very sad panda. Ok, I haven't ...

Re: NEW PC (take that ghey freezing old pc! :P)

The next LGA-2011 chip release with no onboard gfx will be the way to go imo, will have much better overclocking potential. Better? Holy cow. Shall be awesome then. 6-core and quad channel memory will still be cool. I'm hearing the new core i7 2600k chips hitting 5GHz on air coolers. One guy hit th...

Re: FUUUU BSOD FREEZING POS GHEY CRAP PC

Tried intel burn in test? http://downloads.guru3d.com/IntelBurnTest-v2.3-download-2047.html Supposedly the best stability test at the moment. It tests cpu and memory subsystem. Tried looking in the event viewer - is there an entry prior to reboot? The extra time on next bootup is probably windows ch...

Re: QLD Floods

Yeah I heard West End is going to have some issues. BCC did some modelling on streets that could possibly have some issues due to flooding: http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/environment/weather/cbd-exodus-as-brisbane-flood-threat-grows-20110110-19l56.html Nice to know the street I'm on the corner of h...

Re: SSD minimize writes

So revisiting this... Since the last gather of stats, all the drive does is my virtual memory store (pagefile), and my ramdisk (which gets saved every 4hrs). By no means an extensive use of the disk. 9 Power_On_Hours 0x0000 --- --- --- Old_age Offline - 6694 199 Write_Sectors_Tot_Ct 0x0000 --- --- -...

:)

As one famous IBM tech said - "the speed of light is too slow".

Bring on quantum tunneling.

Re: Cant post here. Too busy playing Civ5!

After 97.2hrs, over 10 real days, I can now say I've finished 1x game of civ5. It was as the Russians, largest map, marathon turns, pangea, 12 civs, 24 city-states. I completed the game via space race. Final score: 2192; turn count 1163, year: 1991 AD I'm a bit disappointed no cutscene at the end. T...

Re: Cant post here. Too busy playing Civ5!

Yeah I'm playing it.

Currently about 80hrs in on a marathon, huge, pangea map as the russians.

Combat takes some getting used to.

Re: Home Internet speed

Only to select places in Melbourne.

Once the the $11B deal with NBN was signed - Telstra announced they are no longer pursuing the trial.

All the ISPs have pretty much stopped rolling out infrastructure at hte moment due to the uncertainties of the NBN.

Re: Home Internet speed

i'm on the 200gb plan and the max I can dl at is around 1.5MBps :( I take it - you mean 1.5Mbytes per sec? How are you measuring that? I found www.ozspeedtest.com maxed out at 8Mbits/sec for me, even though I can go way above that on other sites. www.speedtest.net with Brisbane server maxed out at ...

Re: Home Internet speed

Telstra Cable. 50GB Elite I think they call it these days. Reading around, I get the impression cable 'syncs' to 34Mbit/sec to the exchange. Look at times tested :) I did the test at midnight to avoid the very congestion you mention. Doing the test at say 4pm yielded very different results. -- Craig

Home Internet speed

I think this might be worthy of bragging. I've replaced my new cable modem with a netgear CGD24N. Peak speed - 33.77MiBit/sec!!!! (Mi=1024*1024) This was achieved doing multiple downloads of linux ISOs off aarnet mirror. Measured via byte counters on my firewall: # for i in `seq 1 1 10`; do date ; i...

Re: SSD minimize writes

Hi guys! Natually i've done a bit of reading about SSD's since I've recently put one into use. Apparently without changing any write settings with your HDD and just use it as normal with no windows tweaks etc, it's still going to last 30+ years What is your opinion on this? Find me someone who's be...
